EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's soccer team was back at home on Saturday with a top 15 matchup against 8
th ranked University of Chicago. A goal in the first dozen minutes of play would hold as the Blugolds upset the Maroons 1-0 on their home turf.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Carson Kowalski (Jr. – Mundelein, Wis.) opened the scoring for the Blugolds in the 11th minute on a back post run on a corner kick. Kowalski found the back of the net off of Carter Thiesfeld's (Sr. – Forest Lake, Minn.) corner kick to give Eau Claire the early lead.
- In the first half, the UWEC offense held the advantage with nine shots on goal to Chicago's one.
- The second half saw Chicago with an aggressive attack, but the Blugolds held strong and kept all three shots on goal out of danger.
- Spencer Banks (Sr. – Stevens Point, Wis.) stopped the two shots on goal he faced to earn his second shutout of the year. Banks is now 3-0-1 on the year.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Blugolds (6-0-2) will head back on the road on to face St. Olaf College on Wednesday, September 25. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Rolf Melby Field.
