DECORAH, Iowa (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's soccer team was back on the road Wednesday for a nonconference matchup with Luther College. Despite conceding the opening goal of the night, the Blugolds battled back to a two-goal lead late in the second half. The Luther Norse leveled the score in the 85
th minute as the two teams settled for a 3-3 draw.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With the opening goal coming in the 34th minute, Owen Backus (Fr. – Elkhorn, Wis.) tied the game at 1-1 on a half volley from inside the box for his second goal of the season. Owen Williams (Jr. – Stevens Point, Wis.) was credited with the lone assist as the even scoreline would last until halftime.
- After the break, the Blugolds found their lead in the 51st minute as Will Heinen (Sr. – Champlin, Minn.) slipped home a loose ball inside the box off a free kick for his first goal of the season. Heinen's 13th career goal was assisted by Carter Thiesfeld (Sr. – Forest Lake, Minn.).
- In the 71st minute, Nathan Dononvan (Sr. – Hazel Green, Wis.) was taken down inside the penalty area and earned Eau Claire a chance to extend their lead with a penalty kick. Donovan stepped up to the spot and rocketed the ball into the right corner to give UWEC the 3-1 lead.
- The Norse would not go down quietly with a pair of goals in the 79th and 85th minutes to even the game at 3-3.

The Blugolds (4-0-1) will return home on Saturday, September 20
th when the University of Chicago comes to town. Kick off from Simpson Field is scheduled for 2 p.m.
