EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The sixteenth ranked University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's soccer team was back in action on Sunday evening as they hosted Macalester College at Simpson Field. After goals from both teams in the first half, the Blugolds exploded for three goals in the second half to earn the 4-1 home victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED

The Blugolds stuck to their game plan and found the contest's opening goal in the fifth minute when Nathan Donovan (Sr. - Hazel Green, Wis.) headed the ball into the top corner off a throw in. Jacob Sampson (Sr. - McFarland, Wis.) earned the primary assist on the set piece to Donovan.

After an evenly offensive first half, Eau Claire found their edge and out shot the Scots 10-6.

In the 33rd minute, Macalester was awarded a penalty after a foul inside the box. Spencer Banks (Sr. - Stevens Point, Wis.) came up big for Eau Claire and stopped the penalty kick to his right to keep the game even at 1-1.

Nathan Donovan secured his brace in the 65th minute on his second header of the evening to give Eau Claire the 2-1 lead.

Will Miers (Sr. - Columbus, Minn.) and Sam Lynch (Sr. - Verona, Wis.) added to the lead in the final 23 minutes of the game with a pair of back door tap ins to secure the 4-1 victory.

The Blugolds (1-0-0) will hit the road for their first away game on Friday, September 6th when they take on North Park University. Kickoff from Holmgren Athletic Complex in Chicago, Ill. is scheduled for 7 p.m.
