COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's lacrosse team dropped its first-ever Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) game on Friday, falling to No. 24 Colorado College 20-4. The Tigers pulled away with eight goals in the second quarter and seven more in the third, and the Blugolds couldn't claw their way back in.
The game was UW-Eau Claire's first women's lacrosse contest in the WIAC. The conference began sponsoring women's lacrosse this spring.
Samantha Burns (Jr. - Mahtomedi, Minn.) led the Blugolds with two points. The defeat snapped a seven-game win streak for UW-Eau Claire (7-2).
The Blugolds scored once in the second quarter, once in the third and twice in the fourth.
Paige Kiani (Fr. - New Brighton, Minn./Irondale) scored off an assist from Burns in the second quarter and Burns scored unassisted in the third.
Paige Williams (So. - Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) and
Victoria Shea (Fr. - Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Indian Trail) both scored unassisted in the fourth.
Alexandria Shea (Jr. - Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail) made 10 saves in goal. The Tigers out-shot the Blugolds 41-14.
UW-Eau Claire returns to action on Tuesday, April 9 with a road game at Hamline. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. in St. Paul, Minnesota.
