EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's tennis team defeated UW-La Crosse 7-2 on Sunday at Eau Claire Memorial High School. The Blugolds won five of six singles matches and two of three doubles contests to earn their second Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) victory of the season.
The duos of
Demetri Bush (Sr. - Edina, Minn./Duluth Marshall) and
Hunter Roseth (Jr. - Lakeville, Minn./South) and
Andrew Mueller (Jr. - Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) and
Ethan Wurtzel (Sr. - Menomonie, Wis.) both won in doubles play. Bush and Roseth prevailed 8-0 in the No. 1 flight, and Mueller and Wurtzel won 8-5 at No. 3.
Roseth, Bush and Wurtzel all won singles matches along with Pablo Rincón (Fr. - Bogotá, Colombia) and
Ryan Fonseca (Sr. - Andover, Minn.). Roseth recovered after dropping the first set at No. 1 singles to win 2-6, 6-2, 7-6. Bush won 7-6, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Rincón won the No. 3 match 6-2, 6-3, Wurtzel won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 and Fonseca won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6.
The Blugolds will be back in action on Saturday, April 20, with a visit to Wheaton College. The dual is set for 12 p.m.
