ANGOLA, Ind. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's lacrosse team rallied past Trine 16-14 on Wednesday to extend its win streak to five games. The Blugolds trailed by three midway through the third quarter, but scored six of the final seven goals of the game to clinch another win.
Alexie Romanelli (Jr. - Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) scored the game-winner off an assist from
Capri Meyer (Fr. - Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge) with 8:12 left in the fourth quarter. It put UW-Eau Claire (5-1) ahead 15-14, and
Devon Crews (So. - St. Louis, Mo./Rockwood Summit) iced it away with a goal with six minutes to go.
Trine (4-2) had scored with 7:23 left in the third to take a 13-10 lead, but it was all Blugolds from there. UW-Eau Claire outscored them 6-1 the rest of the way.
Crews scored five goals and
Victoria Shea (Fr. - Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Indian Trail) and Romanelli added four each.
Lily Zygowicz (So. - Lafayette, Colo./Centaurus) had five assists. Five different players had three points or more for the Blugolds.
The first half was back and forth, with each side trading the lead. The Blugolds led 4-3 after the first quarter, but trailed 9-8 at half after the Thunder scored three goals in the last few minutes of the second quarter.
Trine scored four of the first six goals of the second half to build a 13-10 lead, but the Blugolds rallied from there. Crews scored three fourth-quarter goals and
Samantha Burns (Jr. - Mahtomedi, Minn.), Shea and Romanelli added a score apiece.
Alexandria Shea (Jr. - Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail) made six saves in net to earn the win.
UW-Eau Claire held a 36-26 advantage in shots and 23-11 in draw controls. The Blugolds had nine successful clears in 14 attempts.
The Blugolds will be in action next on Tuesday, March 26. They travel to St. Paul to take on Hamline with a 7 p.m. start time.
