LAKE NONA, Fla. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's tennis team gave Barry University a push on Wednesday, but ultimately fell 7-0 at the USTA Training Center. The Buccaneers, ranked No. 2 in Division II, won all seven matches that counted toward the team score, but the Blugolds prevailed at No. 3 doubles.
UW-Eau Claire's No. 3 doubles team of
Ryan Fonseca (Sr. - Andover, Minn.) and
Otto Schluter (Jr. - Henfield, England) won its match 6-4. The Blugolds' top doubles team of
Demetri Bush (Sr. - Edina, Minn./Duluth Marshall) and
Hunter Roseth (Jr. - Lakeville, Minn./South) pushed their highly ranked foe to the limit too before falling in a tiebreak 7-6.
Ethan Wurtzel (Sr. - Menomonie, Wis.) won the first set at No. 5 singles 6-2, but ultimately fell in a third-set tiebreak.
After two straight duals against Division II foes, UW-Eau Claire will return to the Division III ranks with a meeting against Luther on Thursday, March 21. Tennis is set for 12 p.m. Eastern at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
