Lily Zygowicz (So. - Lafayette, Colo./Centaurus) shattered the school record for single-game assists as the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's lacrosse team defeated Beloit College 18-4 on Saturday. Zygowicz dished eight assists in the victory, beating the previous best mark of six.
The Blugolds outscored the Buccaneers 10-1 in the first half and never looked back en route to a third consecutive victory.
Reegan Werner (So. - Farmington, Minn.) and
Victoria Shea (Fr. - Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Indian Trail) scored four goals apiece and Zygowicz set up nearly half of UW-Eau Claire's scoring. Seven different Blugolds scored in the victory.
Alexie Romanelli (Jr. - Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central), Werner and
Devon Crews (So. - St. Louis, Mo./Rockwood Summit) opened the scoring for the Blugolds in the first period before Beloit got on the board.
Jess Stiller (Fr. - Evergreen, Colo.) scored back-to-back goals to make it 5-1 in favor of UW-Eau Claire and Romanelli added another in the final minute of the quarter. It sent the Blugolds to the second quarter ahead 6-1.
UW-Eau Claire held Beloit scoreless in the second quarter and tacked on four more goals of its own.
Paige Kiani (Fr. - New Brighton, Minn./Irondale) scored twice, Shea got her first goal of the contest and
Peyton Gullickson (So. - Rosemount, Minn.) got on the score sheet as the Blugolds carried a 10-1 lead into the break.
The dominance continued in the third quarter, where Werner added three more goals and Crews scored another to push the lead to 13. Beloit got a pair of goals back with two scores of its own, but Shea struck again to make the score 15-3 entering the fourth quarter.
Shea added two more goals in the final period and Kiani scored her third of the game to ice away the victory.
UW-Eau Claire outshot the Buccaneers 40-19 and was successful on all eight of its clear attempts.
Alexandria Shea (Jr. - Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail) made 11 saves in net to earn her third straight victory. Zygowicz assisted four goals in the first quarter, two in the third and two in the fourth to set a new program record.
The Blugolds will look to keep their win streak going when they visit Albion (Mich.) on Monday, March 18. The contest is scheduled for 1 p.m. Eastern.
