BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's tennis team picked up its first win against a Division III opponent this spring when it knocked off St. Olaf 6-3 on Sunday at Life Time Fitness. The Blugolds won four singles matches and two doubles matches to pick up the victory.
Hunter Roseth (Jr. - Lakeville, Minn./South) and
Colin Chapman (Jr. - Green Bay, Wis./Southwest) teamed up to win at No. 1 doubles 8-5.
Ryan Fonseca (Sr. - Andover, Minn.) and
Ethan Wurtzel (Sr. - Menomonie, Wis.) won at No. 2 doubles 8-5. The two wins gave the Blugolds a 2-1 advantage heading into singles action.
Pablo Rincón (Fr. - Bogotá, Colombia) took the No. 3 singles match 6-0, 6-0. Wurtzel rallied after dropping the first set in No. 4 singles to win 5-7, 6-1, 10-5.
Sam Murillo (Fr. - Minneapolis, Minn./Coon Rapids) scored a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles, and
Ethan Leeser (So. - Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) prevailed 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
The Blugolds will return to action next week when they open a busy slate on their spring break trip to Florida. They will play seven duals around the Orlando area, beginning with a matchup with Hendrix College on Sunday, March 17.
