DEKALB, Ill. (
www.blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire gymnastics team hit the road this weekend for a nonconference quadrangular on the campus of Northern Illinois University. As the Blugolds competed against their Division I opponents of NIU, Illinois State, and Alaska, UWEC set program records on the vault, beam, and floor to earn the program's highest team score of all time, 190.550.
Harriet Toth (Jr. – Regina, Saskatchewan/Martin) and
Andrea O'Connell (Jr. – Blue Mounds, Wis./Mount Horeb) each broke individual program records on the floor and all-around competitions.
As the Blugolds began the afternoon on the beam, history was made from the get-go as
Meghan Dahlin (Fr. – Holly, Mich.) and
Georgia Guynn (So. – Dallas, Texas/Plano East) tied the second highest scores in program history with a pair of 9.750's.
Linnea Vasali (Fr. – York, Pa./Central York) and
Tia Ravara (Sr. – San Leandro, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) weren't far behind as Vasali scored a 9.675 and Ravara recorded a 9.625 to help the Blugolds boost their overall event score.
Harriet Toth rounded things off with a 9.600 to set a school record of 48.400 points on the beam.
After UWEC's stellar start, the Blugolds weren't done there as the floor competitors followed suit. During her floor routine,
Andrea O'Connell set the individual program record on the floor with a 9.900.
Harriet Toth also broke the record of 9.825, set back in 2004 by Alison Eagles ('04), with a score of 9.875.
Molly Campbell (So. – Lincoln, Neb./Northeast),
Addie Gallun (Fr. – Milwaukee, Wis./Whitefish Bay), and
Kelsey Donovan (Sr. – Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard East) all set personal records themselves with their routines as the group of five broke the floor exercise program team score record set in 2013 (48.775) with a team score of 49.000.
As the Blugolds transitioned to the vault, the consistency continued as the team set yet another program high event score.
Madison Daly (Fr. – Las Vegas, Nev./Palo Verde) led the way with a 9.650 and
Harriet Toth was close behind with a 9.625.
Molly Campbell and
Cadence Cordova (Fr. – Boise, Idaho.Renaissance) added to the team's record score with Campbell's 9.575 and Cordova's 9.525.
Ava Obermoller (So. – Hawley, Minn.) rounded things out with a 9.475 as the Blugolds tallied 47.850, good enough to pass the program record 47.775 set in 2013.
The bars routine helped cap off a historic afternoon for UWEC as Toth and Campbell led the way for the Blugolds with a 9.425 and a 9.350.
Madison Daly was the next highest Blugold with a 9.250 as Eau Claire added 45.300 to their total to secure the program record of 190.550 points.
Amongst the All-Around competitors,
Harriet Toth finished the afternoon with the program's highest all-around total in history with 38.525 points. Toth broke her own personal best of 38.250 that was set a week prior and breaks Tori Erickon's ('18) school record of 38.400 points.
Molly Campbell also recorded a personal high with 37.8250 points.
The Blugolds will be back at home on Friday, March 1
st when they host Hamline University for a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual. First events from the McPhee Gymnasium are set to begin at 6 p.m.
