BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's tennis team fell to Grinnell College 8-1 on Saturday at Life Time Fitness Club.
Hunter Roseth (Jr. - Lakeville, Minn./South) won the No. 1 singles match, but the Blugolds dropped the rest of the matches to the 36th-ranked Pioneers.
Roseth prevailed in a thriller in the top singles flight. He knocked off Wilder Cooke 6-2, 5-7, 10-8, winning in a third-set tiebreak.
The Blugolds had several other close matches but couldn't get any more wins. Pablo Rincón (Fr. - Bogotá, Colombia) fell 7-5, 7-5 in a No. 4 singles match. The doubles team of
Ethan Wurtzel (Sr. - Menomonie, Wis.) and
Demetri Bush (Sr. - Edina, Minn./Duluth Marshall) fell in a tiebreak in the No. 2 doubles match, 8-7 (2).
Colin Chapman (Jr. - Green Bay, Wis./Southwest) and Roseth dropped the No. 1 singles match 8-6.
The Blugolds will look to get back in the win column when they take on St. Olaf on Sunday, March 10, back in Bloomington.
