LA CROSSE, Wis. (blugolds.com) At the Eagle open this past Friday, the Blugolds men's distance medley relay answered the question: What happens when you put two individual school record holders on a relay together? You smash the school record and record a top time in the nation!
Mason Shea started off the relay for the squad with the 1,200m leg. Mason, the 3k Steeplechase school record holder, ran a tactical leg and handed off in 3rd place.
Kevin Eisenzimmer, a 2x 4x400m relay All-American, then got the stick for the 400m leg of the race and blasted an impressive 48.27s split, the fastest 400m split of the night.
Josiah Ziebell held strong on the 800m leg (1:55.14s) and handed off to
Sam Verkerke on the mile leg who ran an astounding split of 4:05.55s to finish in 3rd place! This squad of all seniors smashed the school record by nearly 3 seconds and will aim to run even faster at the National Championships in March!
The women's DMR team of
Anna Schueth,
Kylee Grabarski,
Paige Morrell, and
Mikayla Hady made their mark on the day with a 6th place finish as they crossed the line with a time of 11:58.68.
The rest of the team heads on over to Oshkosh on Saturday, February 17th for the Titan Challenge.
