Men's basketball bests Crown for fourth straight win

SAINT BONIFACIUS, Minn. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team ran its win streak to four with a 77-71 road victory over Crown College on Wednesday. Four different players scored in double figures as the Blugolds held off the Polars.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • UW-Eau Claire (5-3) led from start to finish, although Crown (4-2) was able to hang around until the end.
  • The Blugolds began the game with an 8-3 run featuring 3-pointers from Andre Renta (Jr. - Hudson, Wis.) and Carter Huschka (Sr. - Farmington, Minn.). They led by as much as eight in the first half, and sported a 31-24 lead at halftime.
  • The Blugolds' advantage grew to 20 in the second half. They outscored the Polars 25-12 across the first eight and a half minutes of the half, putting them ahead 55-35 with 11:20 to go.
  • A cold spell for UW-Eau Claire allowed Crown to embark on a 25-9 run across the ensuing seven minutes, whittling the lead down to three points with just over four minutes left.
  • UW-Eau Claire held its own across the final four minutes to see out the victory. The Blugolds ended the game on a 7-4 run.
  • Renta scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Blugolds. Cade Hall (Sr. - Mauston, Wis.) recorded his fourth consecutive double-double by scoring 13 points and grabbing 16 rebounds.
  • Michael Casper (Sr. - Merrill, Wis.) and Huschka scored 13 points apiece. Huschka also had seven rebounds.
  • The Blugolds shot 45% from the field and went 12 of 16 from the free throw line.

UP NEXT

UW-Eau Claire is back at home for the first time since November 23 when it hosts UW-Superior on Saturday, December 7. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Sonnentag Event Center. The Blugolds will be honoring legendary coach Ken Anderson for his induction into the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame prior to the contest.
