DE PERE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team defeated St. Norbert College 84-75 on Saturday at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center. Five players scored in double figures to account for all of the Blugolds' scoring, leading to a third consecutive win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Four players had 17 or more points for the Blugolds (4-3). Andre Renta (Jr. - Hudson, Wis.) shared the game high with 20 points and also added six rebounds and four assists. Carter Huschka (Sr. - Farmington, Minn.) and Michael Casper (Sr. - Merrill, Wis.) added 18 points apiece. Huschka also had seven rebounds and six assists. Gunnar Tebon (Sr. - Sturgeon Bay, Wis.) had a season-high 17 points.
- In a back-and-forth affair, UW-Eau Claire began to pull away midway through the second half. Neither team led by more than six points in the first half. The Blugolds took a 38-35 advantage into halftime.
- With the game tied at 55 with just under 13 minutes remaining, UW-Eau Claire got 3-pointers from Cade Hall (Sr. - Mauston, Wis.), Huschka and Tebon to spark a 9-2 run that put the Blugolds in the lead for good. They led by five or more for the rest of the way.
- The Green Knights (3-1) pulled within five at 78-73 with two minutes left, but UW-Eau Claire made six free throws in the final 45 seconds of regulation to hold off any attempt at a rally.
- Hall finished with a double-double at 11 points and 11 rebounds — his fourth double-double in seven games this season.
- UW-Eau Claire shot 47% from the field and 47% from 3-point range.
- The Blugolds committed a season-low five turnovers.
