EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team snapped a three-game skid with a 73-69 victory over Bethel University (Minn.) on Saturday at the Sonnentag Event Center. The Blugolds weathered a late Royals charge to get back into the win column and move to 2-3 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Each side traded runs – and leads – in the first half before the game was ultimately decided in its final few minutes.
- The Blugolds led by 11 with 4:45 remaining in regulation, but the Royals used a 13-2 run to tie the game at 69 with one minute left.
- Carter Huschka (Sr. – Farmington, Minn.) gave UW-Eau Claire the lead for good with a go-ahead layup with 38 seconds remaining.
- On the other end, the Blugolds forced the Royals into a shot clock violation on their final possession before icing the game away at the free throw line in the final second.
- Andre Renta (Jr. – Hudson, Wis.) led all scorers with 22 points. He also added seven rebounds and three steals.
- Huschka finished with 21 points and eight rebounds. He also made three blocks.
- Cade Hall (Sr. – Mauston, Wis.) tallied a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
- UW-Eau Claire shot 50% from the field.
