MARIETTA, Ohio — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team fell to No. 20 Maryville College (Tenn.) 68-64 on Saturday in the consolation game of the Marietta Shrine Tournament. The Blugolds held a one-point lead with a minute and a half left, but the Scots closed the game with a 6-2 run to take the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In a back-and-forth battle, Maryville made the final run to give the Blugolds a fourth-place finish at the tournament.
- Neither team led by double figures. The largest lead of the game came when UW-Eau Claire went up 29-20 in the final four minutes of the first half.
- The Blugolds led 32-31 at halftime and 62-57 with two and a half minutes left in regulation.
- UW-Eau Claire led for nearly the entirety of the second half. The Scots' took their only lead of the half on a jumper with 1:01 left, starting the decisive 6-2 run. Cade Hall (Sr. - Mauston, Wis.) made a layup to make it 66-64 with eight seconds left, but Maryville iced the game away at the free throw line.
- Carter Huschka (Sr. - Farmington, Minn.) was named to the all-tournament team after leading the Blugolds with 27 points and 10 rebounds on Saturday. Andre Renta (Jr. - Hudson, Wis.) had 15 points, five rebounds and five assists. Hall finished with seven points and 11 rebounds.
- The Blugolds shot 43% and held a 44-34 edge on the glass.
