MARIETTA, Ohio — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team fell to host Marietta College 64-62 at the Marietta Shrine Tournament on Friday. The Blugolds led for most of the game, but the Pioneers capped a comeback with a go-ahead basket with one second remaining to advance to the tournament championship game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-Eau Claire (1-2) used a strong first half to build a healthy lead over the Pioneers. The Blugolds led by as much as 13.
- Cade Hall (Sr. - Mauston, Wis.) was instrumental in the first-half surge. He recorded a double-double before halftime, taking 13 points and 12 rebounds into the break. UW-Eau Claire led 34-24 at halftime.
- Marietta rode a 10-0 run early in the second half to get back into the game. The Blugolds remained in the lead until the final five minutes though.
- The Pioneers took their first lead since the first half when they hit a layup with 4:10 remaining, putting them ahead 55-54.
- Hall hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:21 left, making it 62-60 in favor of the Blugolds, but Marietta scored the final four points of the game. They tied it on a breakaway dunk with 51 seconds left, and scored the winning basket with one second left on the clock. UW-Eau Claire wasn't able to get a shot off at the other end before the buzzer sounded.
- Hall finished with 20 points and 16 rebounds. Carter Huschka (Sr. - Farmington, Minn.) added 11 points and eight rebounds. Andre Renta (Jr. - Hudson, Wis.) scored eight points and added four rebounds.
- UW-Eau Claire shot 38% from the field and won the rebounding battle 41-39. Marietta forced the Blugolds into 18 turnovers.

The Blugolds will take on Maryville College in the consolation game of the Marietta Shrine Tournament on Saturday, November 16. Tip-off is at 5 p.m. Eastern.
