EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The 13th-ranked University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's soccer team earned the first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) victory in program history by defeating UW-Platteville 2-0 on Friday night at Simpson Field. Nathan Donovan (Sr. - Hazel Green, Wis./Wahlert Catholic) boosted the Blugolds past the Pioneers.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In a rematch of a second-round NCAA Tournament game from last season, Donovan got the Blugolds off to a flying start with a goal in the fourth minute. The forward converted assists from Carter Thiesfeld (Sr. - Forest Lake, Minn.) and Sean Redmond (So. - Lebanon, Tenn.), carrying the ball forward and slotting it home for the opener.
- The match remained 1-0 until the 68th minute, when Donovan drew a penalty kick. He converted it successfully, knocking it past the keeper for his second tally of the night.
- Defensively, the Blugolds limited the Pioneers to three shots on goal to earn their fifth shutout of the season. Spencer Banks (Sr. - Stevens Point, Wis.) made three saves in the win. The Blugolds outshot the Pioneers 14-11.
- The match featured 31 fouls and seven yellow cards.

UW-Eau Claire (9-1-2, 1-0-0) will look to extend its win streak to four with a visit to Simpson College on Sunday, October 6. Game time is 3 p.m.
