STEVENS POINT, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire volleyball team ran its win streak to three with a 3-0 sweep of Augustana College at the Papa John's Invite at UW-Stevens Point. The Blugolds won three tight sets to take down the Vikings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blugolds won 25-23, 25-22, 26-24.
- The decisive swing of the first set came in the later stages. With the score tied at 15, the Blugolds embarked on a 7-2 run to pull ahead 22-17. Augustana closed the gap to one at 24-23, but UW-Eau Claire clinched the set on a service error.
- The second set followed a similar suit. The Blugolds trailed 13-12, but went on a 5-0 run sparked by a kill from Abby Stanwood (Jr. - Excelsior, Minn./Minnetonka) to pull ahead. They were ahead the rest of the way, and sealed the set on a kill by Bailey Leeke (Jr. - Lakeville, Minn./North).
- A 13-13 tie swung in UW-Eau Claire's favor after a kill from Leeke started a 5-1 run that put the Blugolds ahead for most of the remainder of the match. Augustana managed to tie the score at 24, but Stanwood hit a kill and Darienne Andre (Jr. - Lakeville, Minn./Rosemount) served out the match with an ace.
- Leeke and Mya Cinnamo (So. - Rosemount, Minn.) shared the team high with 12 kills. Ella Kiebel (Jr. - Maple Lake, Minn.) dished 32 assists, and Kaitlyn Erickson (Fr. - Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) made 12 digs.
- The Blugolds tallied a .210 attacking percentage. The team moved to 14-6 on the season with the victory.

The Blugolds will look for another victory over a ranked opponent when they travel to take on No. 19 UW-Platteville on Wednesday, October 16 in Platteville. UW-Eau Claire has won its last two matches against ranked foes. Start time is 7 p.m.
