EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The 13
th ranked University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's soccer team was back on their home turf on Tuesday evening for a nonconference matchup with the Dubuque University Spartans. UW-Eau Claire dominated play from the opening kick off to earn their sixth straight home win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blugolds controlled the pace and play during the evening battle with Dubuque as they out shot the Spartans 12 to 2.
- After the Spartans hit the post in the 15th minute, Alvaro Alanis (Fr. – Aurora, Ill./) found his first collegiate goal in style with a half volley from 25 yards into the top left corner. Will Miers (Sr. – Columbus, Minn.) earned the primary assist on the Blugolds' first goal that took them to halftime with a 1-0 lead.
- In the second half, UW-Eau Claire found their goals in bunches as Nathan Donovan (Sr. – Hazel Green, Wis.) connected on a free kick from Alvaro Alanis with a header right under the crossbar, making it 2-0 in the 54th minute. Carter Thiesfeld (Sr. – Forest Lake, Minn.) added to the Blugold lead moments later with a rocket of a shot between the goalkeeper's legs to make it 3-0. Thiesfeld's second goal of the season was assisted by Nathan Donovan and Owen Williams (Jr. – Stevens Point, Wis.).
- The goalkeeper tandem of Spencer Banks (Sr. – Stevens Point, Wis.) and Mark Belknap (Sr. – Anoka, Minn.) each had one save and split the Blugolds' fourth clean sheet of the season.

The Blugolds (8-1-2) will be back at home to begin Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play on Friday, October 4
th with UW-Platteville in town. Kick off from Simpson Field is scheduled for 7 p.m.
