Blugolds win regular-season finale

RIVER FOREST, Ill. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's lacrosse team closed out its regular season campaign with a 14-2 victory over Concordia Chicago on Saturday at Concordia Stadium. Six goals in both the first and third periods helped the Blugolds get past the Cougars.

The Blugolds scored the first six goals of the game and never looked back. Reegan Werner (Fr. - Farmington, Minn.) got UW-Eau Claire on the board first with a goal just under two and a half minutes into the contest. Samantha Burns (So. - Mahtomedi, Minn.) and Riley Domagala (Jr. - Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) scored within seconds of each other at the 10:27 and 10:16 marks, respectively. Devon Crews (Fr. - St. Louis, Mo./Rockwood Summit) added a goal with 8:48 to go before Annika Melander (Fr. - Woodbury, Minn.) and Alexie Romanelli (So. - Naperville, Ill./Central) scored back-to-back with just over six minutes left.

Neither team scored in the second quarter, giving the Blugolds a 6-1 advantage at the break.

Domagala and Romanelli scored two goals each in the third quarter, and Werner and Burns scored again too. Raegan Valois (Fr. - Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) and Carmen Erickson (So. - Eyota, Minn./Rochester Lourdes) both scored in the final quarter to finish off the Blugolds' scoring.

Lily Zygowicz (Fr. - Lafayette, Colo./Centaurus) tallied a career-best five assists, and Romanelli and Burns added two assists each. Domagala and Romanelli shared the game high with three goals apiece. Kylah Krause (Sr. - Belleville, Ill./East) and Peyton Gullickson (Fr. - Rosemount, Minn.) had one assist each.

Alexandria Shea (So. - Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail) saved five of the seven shots she faced to earn the victory in net. UW-Eau Claire outshot the Cougars 35-17 and held a 19-15 advantage in ground balls. The Blugolds won 13 of 20 draw controls.

UW-Eau Claire will finish up its season with an exhibition against Marquette University's club/B team on Sunday, April 30. The game is scheduled for 9 a.m.
