Burns & Romanelli lead Women's Lacrosse in home opener as Blugolds improve to 6-0

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's lacrosse team recorded another convincing win on Wednesday night, defeating the University of Northwestern-St. Paul 19-4 in their home opener on Simpson Field.

The Blugolds would score early and often, putting the first goal of the game on the board within the first minute of play and the second one minute later, both unassisted goals by Samantha Burns (Fr. – Mahtomedi, MN). Becky Goetsch (Fr. – Maple Grove, MN) would add a goal at 8:21 before the Eagles would score two goals, but Burns would beat the clock with a goal with just one second left in the first quarter to give the Blugolds a 4-2 lead.

Eau Claire would tighten their defense the rest of way, keeping Northwestern scoreless in the second and allowed just one goal in each of the final frames. Offensively, the Blugolds continued to attack, scoring four goals in the second, seven in the third and four in the fourth. Burns would account for three of those goals while Alexie Romanelli (Fr. – Naperville, IL) added six of her own to lead Eau Claire.

Riley Domagala (So. – Bloomington, MN/Jefferson) and Goetsch would also record multiple goals, scoring three and two goals, respectively. Domagala and Kylah Krause (Jr. – Belleville, IL/East) would each tally two assists on the night.

Alexandria Shea (Fr. – Kenosha, WI) earned another win in goal, improving to 6-0 on the season after recording nine saves.

The Blugolds out-shot the Eagles 36-22 and forced 11 Northwestern turnovers.

The Blugolds (6-0) will go on the road for spring break, traveling to Nebraska to play Midland on March 20th before heading to Iowa to face William Penn on the 21st and then Missouri to play Culver-Stockton on the 22nd.
