MENOMONIE, Wis. (blugolds.com) The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire football team took a trip down I-94 to battle against close conference opponent the UW-Stout Blue Devils. The Blugolds fell short 29-73 against the Blue Devils in a tough WIAC matchup.
The Blugolds started the matchup between UW-Stout receiving the ball. It was a slow offensive start for both teams until Eau Claire put together a seven-play drive that led to a 27-yard field goal from Dan Zeuli () put the team on the board. The Blugolds ended the first quarter trailing 3-15 after a 95-yard return from the Blue Devils.
Ivan Ruble (So.- Clear Lake, WI)) rushed 75 yards at 7:10mark in the second quarter to score the first touchdown for the Blugolds. Jake Cochnauer (So- Farmington, MN) led the defense in the first half with three solo tackles. Eau Claire would enter halftime down 9-39.
The Blugolds started the second half with a 11-yard touchdown pass from Harry Roubidoux (Jr.-Winneconne, WI)) to WR Nick Kudick (Sr.-Mauston, WI) to move the score to 15-39. Roubidoux would find Kuick again late in the third quarter for his second touchdown of the game. Eau Claire entered the final quarter behind 22-53.
Eau Claire struggled to find an offensive flow in the fourth quarter. After the late third quarter touchdown the Blugolds let up two touchdowns to move the score to 22-67. The Blugolds found the end zone late in the fourth as Quinn Faust (Fr.-Lodi, WI) scored his first collegiate touchdown.
Nick Kudick led the team in receptions and receiving yards with 96 yards in 7 receptions. Rubel led the game in rushing yards after his 75-yard touchdown with 165 yards. On the defensive end Cochnauer led the Blugold defense with 7 tackles on the night.
The Blugolds (1-3, WIAC 0-1) will return to Carson Park on Saturday, October 8th at 1:10 PM where they will take on UW-Whitewater Warhawks for the big homecoming match up.
