Men's Tennis Competes at ITA Tournament/Midwest Open

ST. PETER, Minn. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire men's tennis team competed Friday and Saturday at the 2013 USTA/ITA Regional Championships and the Midwest Open at Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.).

The doubles pair of Josh Chuba (Fr.-Elk River, Minn.) and Austin Auleta (Fr.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) led the Blugolds, advancing to the semifinal round of the Midwest Open. They won four straight to get to a semifinal match but then fell 8-5 to finish their time at the open with a 4-1 record.

In the Midwest Open Singles Championship, Conrad Felten (Fr.-Wausau, Wis./East) led the Blugolds by getting to the fourth round, one away from the quarterfinals. In his fourth round match, he lost the opening set 6-1 but won the second one 6-3. In the super tiebreaker, he came up just short 12-10, to finish the weekend 3-1.

The Blugolds will now be off until Feb. 1 when they host St. Ambrose, Iowa in the Ade Olson addition of the McPhee Physical Education Center.
