BRASELTON, Ga. - The UW-Eau Claire men's golf team ended its 2008 NCAA Division III Championships appearance in 23rd place out of 35 teams at Chateau Elan Resort today.

St. John's University (Minn.) which was in fourth place following the third day of the championship had the best round of the day (291) to take home the national title for the second year in a row with 1,192 strokes. The University of Redlands (Calif.) shot 298 today for a total of 1,195 for a second place finish. St. John Fisher College (N.Y.), which was the leader after days two and three, dropped to third after shooting 306 today for an overall total of 1,199. Eau Claire had its second best round of the championship today (316) for a four-day total of 1,283.

Scott Harris, Jr., of St. John Fisher won the individual title after totaling 285 (+1). He shot 68 on day one, 71 on days two and three and 75 today to take the top spot.

Pete Wendt (Sr.-Lake Mills, Wis.) was the top Blugold golfer at the championships, tying for 83rd after shooting a total of 316 strokes (77-77-80-82). Mason Milner (Sr.-Onalaska, Wis.) had the best round of the championships for the Blugolds today with 73 strokes. He shot 319 overall to end up tied for 93rd place. Derek Bauer (Sr.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Eagan) finished tied for 100th overall with 320 strokes, while Ben Ziemann (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial) had the Blugolds' second best total of the day with 79. He ended with 334 strokes, tied for 116th place. Aaron Nelson (So.-River Falls, Wis.) completed the championship in 120th with 351 strokes overall.

This was the Blugolds' tenth appearance overall in the national championship and their second in row. Last season Eau Claire took ninth place.
