Box Score EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire football team put up 46 points on seven touchdown passes en route to a 46-0 victory over Illinois Wesleyan here today at Carson Park.
The Blugolds broke a school record in touchdown passes by a team with seven. Jesse Krzyzanowski (Sr.-Thorp, WI) broke a 41-year-old record by throwing six touchdown passes. The record was held by Jim Van Gorden who had 5 against UW-Whitewater in 1964. Garett Pankratz (Sr.-Milladore, WI/Auburndale) tied a school record for touchdown receptions in a game. With five receptions on the day Pankratz matched his career total.
The Blugold started off quick scoring on their first three possessions. Jesse Krzyzanowski hit Pankratz for an eight yard touchdown pass on the first possession and a five yard touchdown pass on the second possession. On the next possession, Jesse Krzyzanowski hit Scotty Osborn (So.-Fall Creek, WI) for a 13-yard touchdown pass.
In the second quarter, Jesse Krzyzanowski hit Pankratz again for a six yard touchdown and then hooked up with Chris Hull (So.-Blaine, MN/Spring Lake Park) for a 38 yard touchdown pass. The Blugold entered the locker room with a 32-0 lead.
In the third quarter, Jesse Krzyzanowski finished off his record setting day by hitting Scotty Osborn once again on a one yard touchdown pass.
Backup quarterback Kyle Paulson (Fr.-Amery, WI) threw his first collegiate touchdown pass connecting with Chris Hull on a 16-yard strike for the game's final score. Chris Hull ended up with four catches for 66 yards and two scores.
The Blugolds defense was stellar in the victory shutting down the Titans attack. The Titans were held to just 111 yards of total offense, averaging only 1.9 yards per play. Dan Rogney (Jr.-Auburndale, WI) led the defense with six tackles. The Blugolds had three sacks as a team and picked off the Titans twice. It was the Blugolds first shutout since a 40-0 victory over Bethel in 2002.
The Blugolds will enjoy a week off next week before traveling to Indiana on September 24 to face the University of St. Francis at 12:00 p.m. St. Francis was the NAIA national runner-up last season.
