Biography

Tony Carr was inducted into the Blugold Hall of Fame in 1997.

Carr became UWEC’s all-time leading scorer in basketball with 2,257 points in 131 games (127 of which he started) for a 17.2 career average. This was done prior to the implementation of the 3-point line. He shot 48% from the field and 75% from the foul line with 459 rebounds and 226 assists. He was a three-time All-Conference and All-District pick and was the Milwaukee Journal’s Conference Player of the Year in 1982. He was an NAIA All-American twice (second team in 1981 and first team in 1982) and twice was named to the NAIA All-Tournament team. Carr set the school single game scoring record with 49 against UW-Platteville in January, 1982 which earned him NAIA National Player of the Week honors and set the school single season scoring record his senior year when he scored 814 points. He once scored 42 points in an NAIA Tournament game at Kansas City. Carr played on four consecutive conference championship, district championship and national tournament teams that had a combined record of 109-22 and made back-to-back Final Four appearances at the national tournament in Kansas City in 1980 and 1981. Carr was selected to the Midwest Team for the 1978 National Sports Festival and was one of 65 seniors nationwide to play in the Portsmouth, Virginia, Senior All-Star game.

The Milwaukee Bucks took Carr in the 1982 NBA draft. At the time of his induction to the Blugold Hall of Fame, Carr had worked for the Merrick Companies in the Twin Cities since January, 1986, initially as the Job Development Coordinator, then as the Pride Ride Transportation Director.
