EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — UW-Eau Claire lost to UChicago 4-3 on Saturday at Simpson Field. The Blugolds scored once in the first half and twice after halftime, while the Maroons scored twice in each half. The Blugolds put 10 of their 20 shots on goal, matching the Maroons' shots on goal total, and finished with five corner kicks.
Brady Stamp gave the Blugolds a late first-half response, scoring off assists from
Elijah Post and
Luis Marquez Sedano at 39:51 to cut the Maroons' lead to 2-1. Earlier,
Tate McDermott put a shot on frame in the third minute, and
Charlie Mroz helped the Blugolds get through an early Maroons push with a save on Timothy Ratokhin at 8:37 before Giovanni Caselli scored for the visitors at 11:50. The Maroons continued to create pressure after that, but Mroz made three saves in a 1:24 span midway through the half, while the Blugolds generated looks from
Owen Backus,
Noah Malcook and others. After Edward Wu made it 2-0 at 37:30, the Blugolds answered quickly through Stamp and nearly added another late chance when
Ashton Johnston's shot was saved in the 45th minute, sending the match to halftime with the Maroons ahead 2-1.
The Blugolds scored twice in the second half, including Backus' goal with one second left, but the Maroons held on for a 4-3 final. Earlier, Giovanni Caselli scored at 46:40 to put the Blugolds behind 3-1, and UW-Eau Claire responded with chances from
Oge Enwemnwa, Malcook,
Aiden Judickas and Thomas Slater before building pressure with three corner kicks from 67:53 to 72:06. Post finished that stretch at 72:25, scoring off assists from Enwemnwa and Marquez Sedano to cut the deficit to 3-2. The Maroons restored a two-goal margin on Chase Perry's goal at 79:43, and the Blugolds continued to push through a physical closing stretch before Backus scored at 89:59 with assists from Enwemnwa and McDermott.
Post scored on his only shot and added an assist for a team-high three points. Enwemnwa recorded two assists and put one of his two shots on goal. Marquez Sedano also tallied two assists. Mroz made six saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal.
The Blugolds dropped their first game of 2026 and move to 5-1-2 overall while the Maroons advance to 8-1-0 overall.
