Blugold Women's Tennis Splits Sunday Duals

Eau Claire, Wis. - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team split a pair of home matches, earning a dominant 7-0 win over the University of Minnesota Morris before falling in a tightly contested 4-3 match to the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

Against Minnesota Morris, the Blugolds controlled the match from the start, sweeping all three doubles flights to secure the early point. The No. 1 pairing of Reese Burton and Beatriz Felchak led the way with a 6-0 victory, while Delaney Hanson and Kiera Schmid matched that score at No. 2 doubles. Morgan Briggman and Stella Platt added the third doubles point by walkover, giving UW-Eau Claire a 1-0 lead heading into singles.

The Blugolds carried that momentum into singles play, where they won every completed match in straight sets. Burton set the tone at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win, while Felchak (No. 2) and Aubrey Wittwer (No. 3) each earned identical 6-0, 6-0 victories. Ana Paula Ricaurte added a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4, and Hanson secured a 6-0, 6-0 result at No. 5. Briggman completed the sweep with a win by walkover at No. 6 singles, sealing the 7-0 team victory.

In the second match of the day, UW-Eau Claire came up just short in a 4-3 loss to Wisconsin-Superior. The Blugolds were unable to claim the doubles point, as Burton and Felchak fell 6-4 at No. 1, while Hanson and Schmid dropped a 6-4 decision at No. 2. Briggman and Platt battled at No. 3 doubles but were edged 7-5, putting UW-Eau Claire behind 1-0 early.

UW-Eau Claire responded in singles play with three victories to keep the match tight. Burton earned the point at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-2 win, while Aubrey Wittwer added a win at No. 3, 6-3, 6-0. Hanson secured the third Blugold point at No. 5 with a 6-0, 6-2 result. The Blugolds dropped matches at Nos. 2, 4, and 6, including a three-set battle at No. 6 where Briggman fell 2-6, 6-2, [10-8], as Wisconsin-Superior held on for the 4-3 decision.
