Orlando, Fla. - UW-Eau Claire played a full day of action on the courts, taking on two tough opponents and showcasing resilience in singles. The Blugolds dropped their first match 2-5Â before bouncing back with a dominant performance in the second contest, finishing strong with a clean sweep in singles.
In the opening match against Trinity College, the Blugolds struggled in doubles, dropping all three flights. At No. 1, Reese Burton and Beatriz Felchak fell 6-2, while Delaney Hanson and Kiera Schmid were defeated 6-2 at No. 2. Morgan Briggman and Stella Platt dropped a tight 6-4 decision at No. 3.
Singles play brought more success, as UW-Eau Claire picked up two points. Aubrey Wittwer earned a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 victory at No. 3, and Morgan Briggman added a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 6. Reese Burton fell 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1, Beatriz Felchak lost 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2, Ana Paula Ricaurte was defeated 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4, and Delaney Hanson dropped a three-set battle at No. 5 (3-6, 6-4, 10-7).
The second match against Webster University saw UW-Eau Claire make a strong turnaround, starting with doubles. At No. 1, Lily Kennedy and Lauren Kwapil fell in a close 7-6 decision, but Taylor Presler and Ava Pellegrino earned a 6-2 win at No. 2, giving the Blugolds momentum heading into singles.
UW-Eau Claire dominated singles in the second match, earning victories at every flight. Aubrey Wittwer cruised at No. 1 with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Maggie McBratney, while Ana Paula Ricaurte blanked Cris Cristea 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Stella Platt added a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 3, and Marin Catencamp closed out the day with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4.
