EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team fell to UW-Stevens Point 82-66 on Saturday at Sonnentag Event Center. Despite a strong showing from the bench with 26 points, the Blugolds struggled with rebounding, being outrebounded 38-18. Stevens Point capitalized with 20 second-chance points and maintained control in the second half, outscoring Eau Claire 50-36 after leading by two at halftime.
The game commenced with
Xavier Lewis scoring for the Blugolds, but the Pointers quickly responded and tied the score with a layup. Stevens Point extended their advantage to 11-4 after a jumper at the 14:25 mark. UWEC closed the gap with a late push, featuring a layup from
Andre Renta with 12 seconds remaining, bringing the score to 32-30. The period concluded with UWSP holding a narrow 32-30 lead.
The visitors extended their lead in the second half with a series of three-pointers at 19:24. UWSP added another three-pointer at 10:44, contributing to a 50-point half for the visitors. The Blugolds struggled to keep pace, despite
Roan Demovsky's efforts, including his layup at 9:40. The Pointer offensive contributions, including a three-pointer at 4:43, helped secure their advantage. Stevens Point's defense held strong in the closing minutes, maintaining their lead with a final score of 82-66.
Andre Renta scored 13 points, converted 7 of 10 free throws, and recorded four steals.
Carter Lichtsinn added 11 points with 6 of 7 free throws and collected five rebounds.
Roman Richards finished with seven points on a perfect 2-for-2 shooting and grabbed five rebounds.
Tyler Haney contributed nine points, including a 3-pointer, and dished out two assists.
Looking ahead, UW-Eau Claire will travel to face UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday, Feb. 11. The matchup is set for 7 p.m. at Kolf Sports Center in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
