MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) announced its Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 26- Nov. 1, with UW-Eau Claire men's swimmer Carter O'Leary earning Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week honors. The selection was determined by a vote of WIAC head coaches and sports information directors.
O'Leary won both the 1,000-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle events against UW-La Crosse on Oct. 30. He took first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:57.19, finishing more than 26 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. He followed with another first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, posting a time of 4:49.52 to earn nine points in each event. O'Leary's two event victories helped lead the Blugolds to a 169.5-130.5 road victory over the Eagles.
This marks the first time O'Leary has received WIAC Athlete of the Week honors.
The Blugolds will return to action at the D3 Shootout, hosted by the University of Chicago, on Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 7. UW-Eau Claire will also host the Blugold Shootout at noon on Saturday, November 7.
