MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) announced its Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 26- Nov. 1, with UW-Eau Claire men's soccer player Tommy Slater earning Men's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week honors. The selection was determined by a vote of WIAC head coaches and sports information directors.
Slater recorded three points on a goal and an assist, while helping lead the Blugolds to a 1-0-1 record during the week, securing the No. 3 seed in the WIAC Tournament. He played all 90 minutes in both contests, providing a strong defensive presence, while also contributing offensively. Against #RV Luther College (Iowa) on Oct. 27, Slater recorded an assist to help UW-Eau Claire earn a 2-2 tie. He followed with the game-winning goal against UW-Stevens Point on Oct. 30, converting a penalty kick in the 27th minute to lead UW-Eau Claire to a 2-0 victory.
This marks the first time Slater has received WIAC Athlete of the Week honors.
The Blugolds (8-3-6) return to action Wednesday, Nov. 4, hosting UW-Stout Polytechnic at 4 p.m. at Simpson Field for the First Round of the WIAC Tournament.
