PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's basketball team fell to UW-Platteville 88-55 on Wednesday night at Bo Ryan Court. Platteville surged ahead with a commanding first-half lead of 14 points, ultimately outscoring the Blugolds 51-32 in the second half. UW-Eau Claire's offensive efforts were led by 38 points in the paint, but they struggled from beyond the arc, converting just 2 of 16 attempts.
The game opened with the Pioneers scoring a layup just 34 seconds in. UW-Eau Claire's
Xavier Lewis quickly countered with back-to-back layups, putting his team ahead 4-2 early in the half. A crucial 11-1 run by Wis.-Platteville, highlighted by a fast-break layup and subsequent free throw at the 10:10 mark, extended their lead to 16-9. Despite a late push that included a layup from
Carter Lichtsinn with 2:10 remaining, UW-Eau Claire trailed 37-23 at the end of the first half, as UWP capitalized on turnovers and strong bench contributions.
The Pioneers extended their lead in the second half, beginning with a 3-pointer just seconds into the half. UWEC's
Xavier Lewis and
Carter Lichtsinn contributed with points in the paint, but it wasn't enough to match Platteville's offensive efficiency. Despite a late effort by the Blugolds, including a fast-break layup by
Roan Demovsky, UW-Platteville maintained control and concluded the game with a decisive 88-55 victory.
Carter Lichtsinn scored 11 points, making 4 of 6 field goals, and added two rebounds.
Xavier Lewis contributed nine points, converting 4 of 5 shots from the field.
Roan Demovsky was perfect from the floor, scoring eight points on 4 of 4 shooting.
Tyler Haney recorded two steals while adding a point from the free-throw line.
The Blugolds are 11-2 overall and 0-2 in WIAC competition. UW-Platteville holds a 10-3 overall record and is 2-0 in WIAC play.
In their next game, UWEC will host UW-Stout on Saturday, Jan. 10. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. at the Sonnentag Event Center in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
