EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — UW-Eau Claire (16-5-0, 8-0-0) defeated the UW-Superior (1-18-1, 1-6-0), 5-0, at home on Saturday. UW-Eau Claire's power play proved effective, converting twice on six opportunities.
The first period began with the Blugolds taking the early advantage when
Adrienne Hansen scored at 16:33, assisted by
Madisyn Krumholz and
Keira Bolt. Despite multiple attempts from UW-Superior, including a blocked shot by
Jana Lesch at 18:27, goalie
Kambelle Freije kept them scoreless. A power play opportunity arose for UWEC late in the period following a tripping penalty on Veda Roeske, allowing
Kylie Wiltse to capitalize with a power-play goal at 19:10, assisted by
Maddie Hulter. The period concluded with the Blugolds leading 2-0.
UW-Eau Claire extended their lead early in the second period with a goal by
Ashley Wagenbach at 1:48, assisted by
Ava Bullert and
Kenzie Keller. Hansen then increased the margin to four at 14:42, with a goal supported by Hulter. UWEC's dominance continued as Keller capitalized on a power play opportunity, scoring at 3:54 with assists from Wiltse and
Jordan Hancock, pushing the score to 5-0. Despite multiple attempts by UW-Superior, including a late shot by Taylee Marks, the period ended with the Blugolds firmly in control.
UWEC maintained its lead throughout the third period, holding UW-Superior scoreless to secure a decisive 5-0 victory. Multiple power plays occurred in the period, including an early interference penalty on Ella Hornung of UW-Superior at 19:03, but neither team capitalized on these opportunities. The Blugolds had several missed attempts, with shots from Krumholz and Bullert saved by Jayda Moyer of UW-Superior. Freije effectively defended against UW-Superior's attempts, including a late save on a shot by Ashton Parnell with only seven seconds remaining.
Wiltse scored once and added an assist with her goal coming on the power play. Hansen found the back of the net twice, securing the game-winning goal while maintaining a 76% faceoff success rate. Keller tallied a goal and an assist, also converting a power-play opportunity and winning 69% of her faceoffs. In goal, Freije recorded 22 saves to maintain a shutout performance.
The Blugolds improved to 16-5-0 overall and 8-0-0 in conference play, solidifying their strong position in the standings. UW-Superior fell to 1-18-1 overall and 1-6-0 in league competition following the loss.
