EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (15-5-0, 7-0-0) defeated the University of Wisconsin-Superior (1-17-1, 1-5-0) by a score of 4–3 on Friday. The Blugolds secured the win with a goal with less than a minute left in the third period.
The first period began with UW-Eau Claire taking an early lead at 18:21 when
Kylie Wiltse scored, assisted by
Madisyn Krumholz and
Maddie Hulter. UW-Superior responded with a power-play goal at 15:35, as Stacy Steiner found the net with help from Addison Fee. Despite both teams having power play opportunities, the defenses held firm, and the period ended tied at 1–1.
The Blugolds regained their lead early in the second period with a power-play goal by
Lauren Ballinger at 16:07, assisted by
Adrienne Hansen. UWEC maintained pressure, and Hansen found the net again at 14:10 with an even-strength goal, assisted by
Sam Moehle and Krumholz, to make it 3-1. UW-Superior responded with a goal from Avery Olenik at 5:52, assisted by Anna Scherling, reducing the deficit to 3-2. The period ended with UW-Eau Claire holding a one-goal advantage.
In a closely contested third period, UW-Superior tied the game up at 8:01 with a power-play goal by Olenik, assisted by Veda Roeske and Ashton Parnell. The score remained knotted up as both teams exchanged shots and blocked attempts throughout the period. With just 48 seconds remaining, Krumholz of UWEC scored the game-winning goal, assisted by Hulter and
Keira Bolt, securing a 4–3 victory for the Blugolds. Jayda Moyer made several key saves for the visitors, but the late goal by Krumholz clinched the win for the Blugolds.
Krumholz scored a goal and contributed two assists, finishing with a game-winning goal and a +3 rating. Hansen recorded one goal and one assist, achieving a +3 rating and winning 11 of 14 faceoffs. Ballinger scored a power-play goal and posted a 64 percent success rate in faceoffs. Wiltse added a goal on four shots and finished with a +1 rating.
The Blugolds improve to 15-5-0 overall and 7-0-0 in conference play after their narrow victory. UW-Superior falls to 1-17-1 overall and 1-5-0 in conference action following the road loss.
