Wheaton, Ill. — RIT edged University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire 2-1 on Saturday at Joe Bean Stadium. RIT took an early lead with two first-half goals and held off the Blugolds' offense, which managed only one goal. UW-Eau Claire's goalkeeper,
Bella Jones, recorded 10 saves, including seven in the second half, but it wasn't enough to overcome RIT's 26-shot effort.
The first half began with a promising start for the Blugolds as
Emma Donovan found the net in the eighth minute, giving her team an early advantage. Despite
Bella Jones making crucial saves for UW-Eau Claire, RIT responded with goals from Addison Odle in the 33rd minute and Bella Coccio in the 43rd minute, shifting the momentum. The half concluded with RIT holding a narrow 2-1 lead, setting the stage for a competitive second half.
The second half commenced with a defensive showcase as Jones of UWEC delivered a standout performance in goal, registering a series of crucial saves, beginning with a stop against Alexa Marsh at 47:25. RIT maintained offensive pressure throughout, but Jones successfully deflected multiple shots, including key saves against Amerie Mills at 50:19 and Emma Watson at 68:32. Despite Donovan's attempt on goal at 55:39, the Blugolds were unable to alter the scoreline, concluding the half with the visiting team trailing 2-1.
Jones made a notable impact with 10 saves during her 90 minutes in goal. Donovan contributed offensively by scoring one goal and taking four shots, three of which were on goal.
Johanna Thompson added to the attacking efforts with one shot.
UW-Eau Claire holds a record of 0-3-1 following the loss. RIT improves to 2-0-2 on the season.
