MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire secured a 1-0 victory over Augsburg University on Wednesday at Edor Nelson Field. The decisive goal came in the second half, when UW-Eau Claire capitalized on one of their four total shots. Their defense held strong, with their goalkeeper making five saves to preserve the shutout despite Augsburg's 13 shot attempts.

The first half began with both teams establishing a strong defensive presence, highlighted by Bella Jones assuming her position as goalkeeper for the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Despite an early foul by Emma Donovan in the third minute, the Blugolds remained resilient, with Caroline Curran's shot in the 22nd minute narrowly missing the target. The Auggies pressured with several attempts, including onethat struck the woodwork in the 26th minute, but the half concluded in a scoreless draw, showcasing solid defensive efforts from both sides.

The second half began with Jones making a crucial save just five seconds in, setting the tone for UWEC's defensive resilience. In the 51st minute, Donovan capitalized on an opportunity to put the Blugolds ahead with the half's only goal. Jones continued to be instrumental, stopping several attempts from the Auggies, including a pivotal save in the 83rd minute, securing a 1-0 victory for UW-Eau Claire.

Donovan scored the only goal and secured the game-winning goal for the Blugolds. Jones made five saves in the second half to maintain a shutout. Haley Von Rentzell contributed one shot in the match.

UW-Eau Claire improved to 1-3-1 overall after the victory. Augsburg fell to 2-2-0 overall following the loss.

Looking ahead, the UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team will host the College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) on September 13. The matchup is set for 2 p.m. at Simpson Field.
