EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's tennis team began Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play on Friday as they hosted UW-River Falls. The Blugolds finished the night surrendering no sets on their way to a 7-0 victory.
Beatriz Felchak and Olivia Herzog started things off at No. 1 doubles with a 6-1 win.
Kiera Schmid and
Reese Burton followed the top pairings' match with a 6-1 victory of their own.
Morgan Briggman and
Stella Platt concluded the doubles sweep with a 6-1 conclusion to give UW-Eau Claire a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
The Blugolds from top to bottom were victorious in individual play on the evenving as the top three matches were won be Eau Claire's Herzog, Felchak, and Burton.
Aubrey Wittwer was successful at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win and
Ana Paula Ricaurte won her match at No. 5, 6-3, 6-2.
Kiera Schmid rounded out the 7-0 sweep with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles.
The Blugolds will jump back in to WIAC play on Saturday, September 6 as they host UW-Stout at the John & Fay Menard Tennis Center. First matchups are set to begin at 11:30 a.m.
