Blugolds leave Wheaton with 1-1 Draw

WHEATON, Ill. — UW-Eau Claire and Wheaton (IL) played to a 1-1 draw on Friday at Joe Bean Stadium. Both teams scored in the first half, with the Blugolds tying the game up just before the half. Despite a combined 20 shots, neither team could break the deadlock in the second half. Wis.-Eau Claire's goalkeeper made four saves, while Wheaton's goalkeeper recorded seven saves, holding firm under pressure.

The first half saw a series of early offensive efforts from UW-Eau Claire, beginning with Emma Donovan's shot in the opening minute, which was saved. Despite several attempts, including a shot by Mikalyn Hidde at 3:15 and another by Caroline Curran at 15:25, Wheaton's goalkeeper, Leah Roe, stood firm. Wheaton initially took the lead with a goal from Emily Setran at 16:57. However, Katarina Charles equalized for the Blugolds with a penalty kick at 41:19, leveling the score at 1-1 heading into the break.

The second half began with Bella Jones making a crucial save in the 49th minute, denying Wheaton's Emily Setran a clear scoring opportunity. The defensive effort remained strong, with Jones recording another critical save against Lily Lindquist's attempt at the 82nd minute. Despite a yellow card issued to Lisette Thurman in the 84th minute, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire maintained their defensive stance, concluding the half with a 1-1 draw.

Charles scored the only goal for UWEC, finishing with one shot on goal. Jones made four saves in her 90 minutes on the field, allowing just one goal. Hidde registered two shots, both on target, while Johanna Thompson had one shot that was on goal.
