Women's Soccer Falls to Luther

DECORAH, Iowa — Luther secured a 2-0 victory over UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday at Luther College Soccer Field. After a scoreless first half, Luther broke through with two goals in the second half, while their defense held the Blugolds scoreless despite the visitors' 15 shots. Luther's goalkeeper recorded a shutout with five saves, contributing significantly to the home team's victory.

The first half commenced with UW-Eau Claire showing offensive intent, as Emma Donovan attempted an early shot in the third minute, though it sailed over the top. Johanna Thompson was active in front of the goal, recording multiple shots including an attempt in the 26th minute that was saved by Luther's goalkeeper, Elisabeth Queoff. Bella Jones held strong in goal for the Blugolds, making a crucial save at the 10-minute mark to keep the score level at 0-0 by the end of the half.

The second half began with Luther seizing an early advantage as Ava Stemler found the net in the 46th minute, assisted by Katelyn Lynch. Despite the quick setback, UW-Eau Claire responded with offensive pressure, including multiple attempts from Lisette Thurman and Josie Steeno. Jones made crucial saves to keep the match within reach, but Lauren Linkletter extended Luther's lead in the 51st minute. Throughout the half, UWEC continued to push forward, but efforts by Haley Von Rentzell and Sabrina Pickart were thwarted by Luther's defense, resulting in a 2-0 finish.

Thompson led UW-Eau Claire with four shots, two of which were on goal. Jones, the goalkeeper, recorded four saves across 90 minutes despite facing nine shots. Von Rentzell contributed with two shots, both on target, adding pressure to the opposing defense. Thurman added two shots in her midfield role, although none were on target.

UWEC holds a 1-5-1 overall record. Luther improves to 4-1-1 overall after the victory.
