EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — UW-Eau Claire and Simpson battled to a scoreless draw on Saturday at Simpson Field. Both teams had opportunities, with UW-Eau Claire recording 15 shots, six on goal, while Simpson managed 18 shots with nine on target. UW-Eau Claire's goalkeeper contributed significantly with eight saves to maintain the shutout.
The first half commenced with
Bella Jones firmly positioned in goal for the Blugolds, making a crucial save against a close-range attempt by Ally Hoffa in the 17th minute to keep the score even. Despite Simpson's aggressive offensive pressure, with multiple shots on goal and corner kicks, Jones's steadfast goalkeeping neutralized their attempts, highlighted by another key save against Mya Jansen's shot in the 25th minute. UW-Eau Claire's offense struggled to break through, with
Emma Donovan and
Mikalyn Hidde both having their efforts denied by Simpson's goalie, Amanda Pascale, resulting in a 0-0 deadlock at the end of the half.
The second half commenced with the Blugolds pressing forward, marked by
Johanna Thompson's attempts on goal in the 51st and 52nd minutes, though both narrowly missed. Jones provided a solid defensive presence for the home team, recording crucial saves early and late in the half to keep the match level. Despite multiple offensive efforts, including a shot by
Jayda Swopes in the 86th minute, UWEC could not break the deadlock, with the match concluding in a scoreless draw.
Jones recorded eight saves in the match, securing a shutout across 90 minutes. Thompson contributed offensively with three shots, one of which was on goal. Hidde added to the attack with three shots, placing two on target. Donovan also tested the goalkeeper with her single shot on goal.
