18th ranked Blugolds fall to 7th ranked Auggies on the road

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Augsburg University edged the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire 1-0 on Wednesday at Edor Nelson Field. Augsburg's lone goal came in the second half, securing the victory in a match that saw the Blugolds outshoot the Auggies 13-9, but fail to find the net.

The first half featured a strong defensive showing from UW-Eau Claire, with goalkeeper Charlie Mroz making key saves to keep the score level. Noah Malcook and Carson Kowalski challenged Augsburg's defense early on, each taking shots that were saved by Augsburg goalkeeper. Despite a series of fouls against the Auggies and a persistent offensive presence, the Blugolds ended the half with a scoreless draw at 0-0.

The second half began with the Auggies taking an early lead in the 46th minute. UWEC responded with multiple offensive attempts, notably with Malcook taking three shots, but each was saved by Augsburg's goalkeeper. Despite several opportunities, including a shot from Alek Laroi in the 62nd minute and a late attempt by Aiden Judickas in the 87th minute, UW-Eau Claire could not find the back of the net, concluding the match with a 1-0 deficit.

Malcook led the Blugolds with five shots, including three on goal. Mroz played the full 90 minutes in goal, recording two saves. Judickas contributed two shots, both on target, for the team. Sean Redmond also made an impact with one shot on goal.

The Blugolds hold a record of 2-1-1 overall this season. The Auggies remain undefeated at 6-0-0.

In their next game, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire will host Elmhurst University on Saturday, Sept. 13. The match is set to kick off at 7 p.m. at Simpson Field.
