WAUKESHA, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire defeated Carroll University (Wis.) 2-0 on Sunday at Schneider Stadium. The Blugolds took an early lead with a goal in the first half and secured the victory with another in the second half. The team's defense limited the Pioneers to just three shots on goal, while UW-Eau Claire's goalie contributed with one save to maintain the shutout.
UW-Eau Claire gained the upper hand early in the first half, with their offensive pressure resulting in a goal by UWEC's debutante
Ramzi Ouro in the 27th minute, assisted by
Alek Laroi off a corner kick. The visiting team demonstrated strong control of the game, taking multiple shots and earning several set pieces, including one by
Elijah Post in the 32nd minute. Despite a few fouls committed by UW-Eau Claire, including two by
Noah Malcook, the team maintained their lead, going into the break with a 1-0 advantage over the Pioneers.
The Blugolds secured their victory with a decisive goal in the 86th minute by Malcook, extending their lead to 2-0 against Carroll. The second half saw several attempts by UWEC, with shots on goal from Post and
Sean Redmond, both saved by the Pioneers' goalkeeper, Jason Brunger. The defense held strong as
Charlie Mroz saved a critical shot from Iskander Sharipov, maintaining the shutout.
Malcook scored one goal for the Blugolds and led the team with one shot on goal. Ouro also contributed with one goal, which was the game-winning goal, from two total shots. Laroi provided an assist, marking his highlight performance in the match. Mroz played a key role in goal, securing a clean sheet with one save across the full 90 minutes of play.
UW-Eau Claire improved to 1-0-0 after securing the victory. The loss left Carroll at 1-1-0 on the season.
The next challenge for UW-Eau Claire is a trip to Superior, Wis., where they will face UW-Superior on Thursday, Sept. 4. The match is set for 7 p.m. at Superior Choice Credit Union Stadium.
