Box Score WHEATON, Ill. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's tennis team edged Wheaton 4-3 on the road on Saturday. The Blugolds, ranked 63rd in the latest ITA rankings, recovered after dropping the doubles point to knock off 72nd-ranked Wheaton.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blugolds only won one of three doubles matches to start the dual. Their victory came in the No. 3 flight, where Téa Armstrong (Sr. - Blue Earth, Minn.) and Liv Herzog (Jr. - Owatonna, Minn.) prevailed 7-6. UW-Eau Claire lost the No. 1 and No. 2 matches both by 7-5 scores. That gave Wheaton a 1-0 lead entering singles play.
- In singles action, the Blugolds won the top three flights and at No. 6 to clinch the dual. Samantha Fuchs (Sr. - DeForest, Wis.) won 6-0, 6-1 in No. 1 play. Anna Lee (Jr. - Buffalo, Minn.) won 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 2 match, Beatriz Felchak (Fr. - Curitiba, Brazil) prevailed 7-6, 6-2 at No. 3 and Aubrey Wittwer (Fr. - Delano, Minn.) won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 6. Herzog took the No. 4 match to three sets but fell, while Reese Burton (Fr. - Lakeville, Minn./South) dropped the No. 5 match in two sets.
