EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's lacrosse team cruised past UW-Stout 22-5 on Saturday at the Sonnentag Fieldhouse.
Reegan Werner (Jr. - Farmington, Minn.) became the third player in program history to score 100 career goals as the Blugolds picked up a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) victory over the Blue Devils.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Werner scored five times to bring her career total to 100 goals. She joins teammates Alexie Romanelli (Sr. - Naperville, Ill./Central) and Samantha Burns (Sr. - Mahtomedi, Minn.) as the only 100-goal scorers in Blugolds history.
- The Blugolds (9-5, 6-2) scored the first nine goals of the game and had little trouble from there. They outscored the Blue Devils (7-5, 2-5) 8-0 in the opening quarter.
- Burns and Werner scored two goals apiece in the first quarter.
- The closest UW-Stout got was within six goals of the lead. The Blue Devils scored three times consecutively in the second quarter to make it a 9-3 game, but never got any closer.
- Seven different Blugolds had three points or more. Werner led the way with seven, bringing her season total to 59. Ellie Fisher (So. - Stillwater, Minn.) added five points off two goals and three assists.
- Victoria Shea (So. - Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Indian Trail) and Jess Stiller (So. - Evergreen, Colo.) had four points apiece.
- Alexandria Shea (Sr. - Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Indian Trail) had six saves in net to earn the victory. She played one half, while Bella Jones (So. - Neenah, Wis.) added three goals in the other half.
- The Blugolds recognized six seniors for Senior Day: Burns, Ella Novak (Sr. - Columbia, Md.), Romanelli, Kaia Hollingsworth (Sr. - Methuen, Mass.), Lydia Wickersham (Sr. - Milton, Wis.), and Alexandria Shea.
