ORLANDO, Fla. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's tennis team dropped the first two duals of its spring break trip, falling to No. 37 Hope College 4-3 and Trinity College (Conn.) 5-2 on Monday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blugolds won seven total matches on the day.
- In the first dual, Hope took the lone team point up for grabs in doubles action by winning two of three matches. Téa Armstrong (Sr. - Blue Earth, Minn.) and Beatriz Felchak (Fr. - Curitiba, Brazil) won the No. 3 doubles match 7-6.
- In singles, Samantha Fuchs (Sr. - DeForest, Wis.) won in the No. 1 flight 6-2, 7-5. Liv Herzog (Jr. - Owatonna, Minn.) prevailed 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 singles. Reese Burton (Fr. - Lakeville, Minn./South) won 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 at No. 5 singles.
- Against Trinity, Fuchs and Anna Lee (Jr. - Buffalo, Minn.) won the No. 1 doubles match after their opponents retired. It was the Blugolds' only doubles win though, giving the Bantams the team point heading into singles play.
- In singles action, Herzog and Burton picked up UW-Eau Claire's only two wins at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. Herzog won in straight sets while Burton won a third-set tiebreaker. Trinity won two singles matches by third-set tiebreak.

UW-Eau Claire has two duals on Tuesday, March 18. The Blugolds take on William Smith at 8:30 a.m. Eastern at Lake Cane Tennis Center, and then battle No. 23 Denison University at 6 p.m. Eastern at the USTA National Campus.
