ST. LOUIS — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's tennis team defeated Rhodes College 4-3 in its spring opener on Friday at Forest Lake Tennis Club. After dropping the team point that was up for grabs in doubles play, the Blugolds won four of the six singles matches to clinch the dual.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Samantha Fuchs (Sr. - DeForest, Wis.) and Anna Lee (Jr. - Buffalo, Minn.) teamed up to win at No. 1 doubles for UW-Eau Claire. Rhodes won the other two doubles matches though, snagging the lone team point that was available by winning the majority of the three flights.
- Facing a 1-0 deficit, the Blugolds won at Nos. 1, 2, 5 and 6 singles to secure the dual.
- Fuchs won at No. 1 singles 6-3, 6-3.
- Lee won a third-set tiebreak to win the No. 2 match 6-2, 4-6, 1-0.
- Liv Herzog (Jr. - Owatonna, Minn.) prevailed 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
- Reese Burton (Fr. - Lakeville, Minn./South) clinched the dual for UW-Eau Claire with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.
UP NEXT
The Blugolds are back at Forest Lake Tennis Club on Saturday, February 8, to take on sixth-ranked WashU. The dual begins at 8 p.m.
