EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's basketball team fell to No. 19 UW-Stout 73-60 in a rivalry matchup on Wednesday at the Sonnentag Event Center. The Blue Devils got out to an early lead, and the Blugolds weren't able to complete a second-half rally despite a third-quarter surge.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-Stout (16-4, 7-2) closed the first quarter on a 13-4 run after a back-and-forth seven opening minutes. UW-Eau Claire (7-13, 2-7) trailed 22-13 after the first quarter.
- The Blue Devils used a 10-0 run midway through the second quarter to build a 19-point lead. They took a 45-25 advantage into halftime.
- The Blugolds began to chip away at the lead in the third quarter. Four consecutive points from Kyla Overskei (Jr. – Maple Grove, Minn.) started an 8-0 spurt that cut UW-Stout's lead to 11 at 50-39. UW-Eau Claire continued to hang around the rest of the period, and entered the fourth trailing 55-43.
- UW-Eau Claire never got closer than 11 in the final quarter. The Blue Devils outscored the Blugolds 18-17 in the period.
- Overskei had 19 points and six rebounds to lead UW-Eau Claire. Reanna Hutchinson (Jr. – Eau Claire, Wis./North) added 10 points.
- The Blugolds shot 43% from the field, but UW-Stout shot 51%.
- UW-Eau Claire held a 31-27 advantage on the glass.
- The game featured 42 total turnovers.
