SUPERIOR, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team defeated UW-Superior 3-1 on Tuesday at Siinto S. Wessman Arena.
Lauren Ballinger (Fr. - Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View) scored a pair of goals to help the 14th-ranked Blugolds win their fourth consecutive game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ballinger opened the scoring with a goal just 1:23 into the game. Madisyn Krumholz (So. - Burnsville, Minn.) and Ashley Wagenbach (Fr. - Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) assisted the opener.
- Ballinger made it 2-0 in favor of UW-Eau Claire (15-6-0, 7-1-0) when she scored on a power play with 12 and a half minutes left in the second period. Quinn Hartmetz (Sr. - Phoenixville, Pa./Gilmour Academy) and Krumholz assisted.
- Maddie Hulter (So. - Fergus Falls, Minn.) made it a three-goal Blugolds lead with another power-play goal early in the third period.
- The Yellowjackets (9-10-2, 1-7-0) got on th eboard in the final seven minutes of regulation, but were unable to mount a comeback.
- Tegan Swanson (Fr. - Eden Prairie, Minn.) made 15 saves in net to earn the victory.
- UW-Eau Claire held a 29-16 advantage in shots.

The Blugolds are back at home on Saturday, February 8, when they host No. 2 UW-River Falls in a key Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) clash. Puck drop is at 2 p.m. at Hobbs Ice Arena. The team will be hosting Youth Day at the game.
